Seeking Input on New Policy and Practice Briefs in Food Systems Work

2025-02-06

In collaboration with its partners and the University of Kentucky and Dalhousie University, JAFSCD is preparing to publish three ongoing series entitled JAFSCD Food System Program, Policy, and Practice Briefs: one series on Value Chain Coordination, one on Sustainable Diets (i.e., healthful consumption that is also good for the planet), and one on Sustainable Production Programming.

We are soliciting feedback on the design of the JAFSCD Briefs series. Please take 5-8 minutes of your time to answer a few questions and share your thoughts.

We welcome you to complete the survey HERE. You can also read more details first. Thank you!

On our cover, we share a photo from the paper “Hāloa: The long breath of Hawaiian sovereignty, water rights, and Indigenous law,” by Puanani Apoliona-Brown (to be published in December 2024). The photo depicts a Protect Kaho‘olawe ‘Ohana (PKO or ‘Ohana) press conference at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 31, 1977. PKO was a small group of Native Hawaiian activists who organized to stop the bombing of a sacred island that the U.S. Navy had used for target practice since World War II. Featured in the foreground are Leimomi Apoliona (left) & Dr. Emmett Aluli (right). The article author, Ms. Apoliona-Brown, is the daughter of Apoliona and is a Tribal Food Systems Research Fellow with the First Nations Development Institute.

Photo by Terry Luke that appeared in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin story about the press conference. The original photo was given to Leimomi Apoliona by the photographer and is used with her permission.
